Living in the rural areas infer
that they are almost cut off from most government services and provision such
as security, educational facilities, medical supplies, electricity etcetera.
Due to the absence of these basic social amenities, there has been huge
migration of many people living in rural areas to urban areas, like Mogadisho,
Hargeisa, Garoowe etcetera, and this has caused economic breakdown, decreased
the livestock, destroyed the value of society, and shattered the Somali culture
and heritage.
More so, migration has cause
inconvenience humans at large. For example, some big cities have become
overcrowded, unemployment rate is day-by-day increasing, gangster ism, robbery
and violence have become the order of the day, traffic congestion, and global warming
is on the increase every hour, and the likes. In addition to this,
deforestation for domestic use most especially among the Somali populace is
skyrocketing. This has caused environmental degradation, global warming and
climate change, decreased rainfall, etcetera.
Consequently, this has
brought repetitive droughts every year most especially in the Somali regions of
the Horn of Africa, which in turn has sprung up death rate of both humans and
other living organisms. More importantly, livestock play significant roles in
the life of Somali people living in rural areas, so the death of these animal
caused by drought led to mass relocation to big cities with basic means of
survival. This is why some of the turn to unemployment or unavoidable burdens
to city dwellers
Finally, I should suggest the
consuming Somali traditional foods is very fundamental solution and big
encouragement Somali agriculturists and pastoralists to produce more since
there would then be a market for their goods. hopefully, the governments would
discover new approaches of combining the agricultural system and pastoralist
system (i.e agro-pastoralism).This approach would help in eradicating
illiteracy and poverty.
